PEP TALK # 1
The first few days just plain stink. You walk around in a fog. You think about the "what if's" and the "I should haves" and you don't know where to start. Secretly you may be relieved. It was a downward spiral anyway, the rules of engagement had changed, management had changed etc etc…but you were/are loyal and wouldn’t have quit. Well now the choice has been made for you.
Look at the job loss as an opportunity to change it up. Try something new. Refresh! You can turn this unfortunate time into a positive experience. After the licking of the wounds/grieving period (which is different for all…) wake up and kick start the day. Remember that saying??
TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
Make a TO DO list. Get busy. Rework the resume. Network. Make calls. Get out there and meet with everyone…people want to help. Ask for their help.
Exercise…Get the blood flowing and the body geared up for the day. A lot of decisions are made on a walk, a run, or a yoga mat. Stick to a daily routine. Much more is accomplished when you have appointments on your calendar…even if those appointments are to spend an hour at the library or a take a lunchtime walk to Starbucks. Keep the pace steady.
Opportunity awaits you…a friend of mine’s father used to say…you never know what the day will bring, you could turn the corner and your life can change.
